About the Journal
The journal "Apuntes de Bioetica" of the Institute of Bioethics (IBE) of the Santo Toribio de Universidad Católica Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo (USAT), is an instrument for disseminating the production of scientific knowledge by national and international researchers interested in bioethical issues.
Topics such as the philosophical and anthropological foundations of bioethics, the study of problems arising from the use of biotechnologies, questions related to the beginning and end of human life, the care exercise of health professions, topics related to biopolitics, biolaw, biofamily, education, environment, human development and society from a perspective of protection of the person and respect for their dignity. In this way, "Apuntes de Bioetica" is configured as an interdisciplinary journal that tends to search for the truth, under a rigorous and scientific academic exercise.
Apuntes de Bioética is an journal of open access and peer-reviewed that publishes unpublished articles by national and foreign authors, in Spanish and Portuguese.
The journal publishes research articles and review articles that focus on the following research topics:
- General Bioethics, deals with the ethical foundations, as well as their documentary sources.
- Clinical Bioethics and Technoscience, so that health personnel can delve into bioethical issues directly derived from patient care and the challenges that biotechnological progress has imposed on care work. This theme is committed to raising awareness among health professionals to guide their practice in a more ethical and humane way.
- Biojuridical, Biopolitical and Human Rights, so that legal and related professionals can study the problems that arise in these areas, framed in the defense of the inalienable dignity of the human being throughout his life cycle, in order to recognize and study the different international guidelines related to human rights, their history and the legal and political implications at the national, local and institutional levels, with a critical sense and in defense of the dignity of the person.
- Bioethics and Education, addresses issues related to the teaching of bioethics in the training of people and professionals involved in education. In addition, strategies can be provided for the educator to be a trainer in Bioethics from school, university and other academic environments.
- Bioethics and Family, theme where the bioethical contribution is presented in the treatment of problems related to human life and the family environment in which it is inserted. Opening the way to the configuration of an area of scientific interdisciplinarity between bioethics and family sciences.
- Bioethics, Society and Environment, aimed at different professionals who, due to their work, face bioethical problems or want to improve their professional practice and personal life with structured tools, in order to defend human beings and protect their dignity in these areas, as well as their contribution in the environment.
In 2017, the Institute of Bioethics of the Universidad Católica Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo (USAT) presented to the Vice President for Research the proposal to create the scientific journal "Apuntes de Bioetica", said proposal was approved, and from there the journal began the reception of scientific articles through calls according to themes, all of which have gone through an editorial process that includes blind peer review and similarity review. The approved articles have been published in the issues of the journal since 2018.
On July 15, 2020, the formalization of the creation of the scientific journal "Apuntes de Bioetica" and the appointment of the Chief Editor of the journal (Rector Resolution 062-2020-USAT-RTDO) is made official from the Rectorate of the university.
Since August 11, 2020, “Apuntes de Bioética” has been indexed to Latindex 2.0, after demonstrating that it meets the requirements that this directory demands.
On August 13, 2020, "Apuntes de Bioetica" managed to be included in Sherpa/Romeo, an online resource that manages the copyright policies and open access self-archiving of publishers and journals.
In December 2020, they accepted the indexing of the journal in Dialnet, one of the largest bibliographic portals with free and open access, which allows the deposit of full-text content.
Apuntes de Bioetica also belongs to the Ibero-American Network of Innovation and Scientific Knowledge (REDIB), in addition to being part of the scientific research database "Dimensions" and using the Google Scholar website analysis and monitoring tool that allows viewing the citations and h index of the magazine.
In July 2021, the journal "Apuntes de Bioética" began to use a new article structure format. As of the year 2023, the journal includes the writing of the structured abstract in the format of scientific articles.
The journal is constantly improving, seeking to meet the most demanding requirements of databases with the greatest impact in order to make the Peruvian scientific journal "Apuntes de Bioética" become a leader in the field of bioethics.
The journal "Apuntes de Bioetica" is financed by the Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo Catholic University (USAT), Chiclayo, Peru.
